The readings for this Sunday give us some of the main themes of Ordinary Time. Zechariah is about the coming of the Messiah, and tells us about the sort of savior he will be (bonus – Why did Jesus show up on Palm Sunday riding a donkey? This reading is your answer). The Psalm also tells us something about the sort of savior he will be.
Okay. But we just finished the whole Advent-Christmas-Lent-Easter-Pentecost thing, we should have a pretty good idea of what sort of a savior Jesus is by now. So why bring this up again?
To remind us of something else – that Jesus is the fulfillment of God’s promise of a savior. Sunday’s readings remind us that God's promises mean something, that God is a faithful God.
More on Sunday’s readings tomorrow.
