When something happens, we get ideas about how things are supposed to happen. Without even trying. It’s like we decided that’s how it always goes. Every time.
We like to have it all figured out. So much so that when it’s different (even if it’s better), we don’t really believe it. We may not even notice it.
And that’s what God is dealing with in the first reading (Isaiah). God’s done things one way in the past. So we’ve decided that’s how it always goes. Every time.
But when we do that, we miss a lot of what God’s doing in our own lives. Especially when it’s different. Or better.
