That can’t be me

“Lord it over them.”

It shows up Sunday’s Gospel. It’s not something we hear every day. But the moment Jesus says it, we know what it means.

And we all have the same reaction to it.

Go away. Someone who’s doing it is someone we don’t want to be around.

Why?

Because we know it’s a warning, like a road flare. It tells us that there’s something we need to avoid.

That this is someone who loves things and uses people.

The point of Jesus warning? That if I’m really His, that someone can’t be me.

More on this tomorrow.
