Too good to be true

One of the “joys” of specialty TV channels, especially early in the morning or late at night? Program-sized infomercials.

They’ve got an hour to fill. The stuff they say about their latest miracle product sounds wonderful.

And just too good to be true.

Sunday’s Gospel is after the Resurrection. In the verses leading up to it, Mary Magdalene has told the Apostles about speaking with the risen Jesus. So Peter and John checked her story. And found the tomb empty.

Then the disciples who met Jesus on the road to Emmaus come to tell the Apostles about it.

It all sounds wonderful. But as the Gospel opens, the Apostles don’t know what to think.

Because it all seems just too good to be true.

More on this tomorrow.
