If you needed glasses as a kid, you really didn’t know what you were missing. Until you got glasses. Suddenly everything came into focus, and you could see things you only sort of knew were there before.
Sunday’s first reading (Proverbs) feels familiar. Even if we’ve never heard it before. Because it calls to mind so many things in the Gospels.
Jesus’ parables about feasts. The finest food for the poorest people. Servants seeking guests to come to and eat.
The first reading shows us all of that. But from a different perspective - God’s. Suddenly everything comes into focus. Especially Sunday’s Gospel.
