A Moment before Christ the King Sunday

Sunday’s first reading (Daniel) is full of sweeping statements.  Just like the Psalm and the epistle.  All of them showing Jesus as the second person of the Trinity, as the Christ the King.

The images are vivid, full of power and glory.  And they need to be.  Since they’re trying to show us who Jesus really is.

So while it might seem a little odd that the Gospel (John) that follows all of the divine and kingly images is Good Friday, it really isn’t.

Because we need to be absolutely clear about who we are preparing for in Advent.  Exactly who gave everything to save us.  And who would have done it all, even if you and I were the only ones who needed saving.
