Beginnings set patterns

Beginnings matter.  That’s why there are all of the clichés about first impressions.  Because that first impression never dies.

And for good reason.  How something starts tells you a lot about how it’s going to go.  Beginnings set patterns.

Which is why the opening chapters of Genesis matter.  They show us the beginning of our relationship with God.  And Sunday’s first reading (Genesis) sets a pattern.

God’s first thought about us?  Our good.  Seeing that it’s not good for us to be alone, God sets about providing for one of our most basic needs.  Setting the pattern for our relationship with God.
