Most of the time, the Church asks you to show up. Sundays, Christmas, Easter, even holy days of obligation. Just show up. Because the Church knows that those moments will speak to us, if we give them half a chance.
But what if that’s not enough? What if it’s hard to hear those moments? That’s why Lent is different. It’s an invitation, not just to show up. But to go deep.
All of the extra stuff that happens in Lent? It’s not a distraction. It’s all there to help us respond to the invitation.
Because just showing up wasn’t enough for the One who’s doing the inviting. And He’s waited a long time for us to go deep.
