Halloween is haunted house season. Everyone from charitable groups to theme parks has a haunted house. There are even commercial ones run by haunted house professionals.
Part of what makes haunted houses scary is the uncertainty. You don’t know what’s going to jump out at you, and you don’t know where you’re going. But not really, because while you’re waiting to go in, you can see the exit, with people laughing after having a great time.
In life, we don’t get to see the exit, and uncertainty about what happens after we die can be really scary.
