Sometimes it’s obvious. And even though it’s obvious, they’ll still tell you. There was no doubt. But they told you anyway.
Which is okay, I guess. But it’s a lot better if they’re telling you about something that isn’t obvious. That’s when it actually helps.
Which is what Sunday’s first reading (Isaiah) is all about. Telling us how to spot the Messiah, the Christ. When it’s not obvious. When it actually helps.
And just in case there are any doubts, God’s the one doing the telling.
