A Moment before the 3rd Sunday of Easter

After hearing about the Resurrection, the apostles hide in fear.  So Jesus goes where they are.  To call them again as His apostles.  And they find the courage to come out of hiding.

To go back to their old jobs.  As fishermen.  So Jesus goes to where they are.  To call them again as His apostles.

Which leads to the most awkward reunion in the Gospels.  And the best possible response to Jesus’ shameless returning (again and again) to call them back.  Peter’s joyous rush to meet Jesus.

In spite of all he did, and all he didn’t do, Peter takes the risk.  Peter’s response is shameless, because Peter gets it.  Peter knows Who he’s jumping out of the boat for.

And if there’s anything awkward or intimidating about it, it’s not coming from the One who’s waiting on the beach with open arms.
