She was your BFF. You knew what she liked and she knew what you liked, you did everything together – and then, in kindergarten, your family moved out of state.
At the new place, you met some kids your age that lived nearby, and it wasn’t long before you figured out that they were different from your old BFF. To have a relationship with them, you couldn't treat them like they were her. You had to get to know them, on their terms.
Often, we treat God like someone else we know, usually without even realizing we're doing it. Sunday's Old Testament reading reminds us that God's ways are different from ours. Meaning that to have a relationship with God, we have to remember what we learned in kindergarten.
We have to get to know God, on God's terms.
