So you go to your favorite takeout place. The folks who run it are immigrants, and they've got the TV on with the news from back home. Except for the names of people and places, it's really hard to understand what's being said, because you've never heard anything like this before.
Sunday's Gospel (Luke) is the aftermath of the Resurrection. People are telling the Apostles about seeing the risen Christ, but they're having trouble understanding just what that really means. Because they've never heard anything like this before.
Which is why when Jesus shows up, they're still having trouble understanding just what it really means for him to be risen from the dead. They're trying to understand the Resurrection based on what they know and things they've heard about. And it's just not working.
Which is understandable, because this has never happened before.
More on this tomorrow.
