So you’re talking to a friend. About whatever, nothing serious. Then suddenly, they’re pouring their heart out about something that you can tell just hurts.
It’s all just tumbling out. You’re waiting for them to take a breath. When they’re done, you’re thinking “where did all that come from?”
You didn’t ask for it. But they’re really vulnerable right now. And how you respond will make all the difference in the world.
That’s what we get in Sunday’s first reading (Nehemiah). We see what happens next, how God responds when we pour our hearts out.
