Nobody can do that

Sunday’s epistle (Ephesians) tells us God’s view of marriage.  Husbands are to love their wives, as Christ loves the Church.  Sacrificial love, modeled on Christ Himself.

World:  “Nobody can do that.”

Church:  “Close.  Nobody can do that - by themselves.”

The Church knows a husband can’t do it alone.  Just like other callings to love as Christ (priests, deacons...), the Church knows that the only way this can happen is with the Holy Spirit through the Sacraments.

This is going to take God’s grace, God’s patience, and God’s strength.  Just one of the many reasons why the Church insists on a Sacrament of Marriage.

More on this tomorrow.
