When people find out you’re Catholic at school or work, you become the “official Catholic.” You are now the representative of the Church. And you get everyone’s ideas/complaints about Pope Francis, the Church, etc.
One of them will be how somebody connected to the Church (priest, nun, teacher, etc.) said something years ago that really hurt. Why are they telling you? It still hurts.
As someone who is 3 months away from ordination as a permanent deacon (God willing), one of my greatest fears is being “That Guy.” That something I thought was funny or just said without thinking will be what hurts someone. For years.
Why am I bringing this up? Because it’s not just people with collars or titles that can do the damage. It's a danger for "official Catholics" too.
More on this tomorrow. Readings for Sunday
