The first reading for Sunday (Acts) is all about Saul. And it has a tone to it like Saul’s someone who doesn’t need an introduction, as if you're supposed to know who he is. But what if you don’t?
To put it mildly, Saul's got a past.
Need someone to persecute Christians? Saul's your guy.
Need Christians arrested and hauled away in chains? Saul again.
Need someone to hold your coat and cheer you on while you stone a Christian to death?
So it makes sense that the disciples would be afraid of Saul, and wouldn’t believe a thing he says. And yet, that’s exactly who God chooses to spread the Gospel.
More on this tomorrow.
