Most things in life happen and that’s that. We experience them, and then we move on to the next thing. They might be emotionally moving or entertaining, but there’s no lasting impact.
There aren’t many life-altering sandwiches. And no one radically changed their life after seeing the “Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse.” Just sayin’.
The reactions we see in Sunday’s Gospel (Luke)? They tell us that what’s happening with John isn’t like most things. The people aren’t moving on to the next thing.
They get that this is something life-altering. And they want to know what it means.
