Promises made. Promises kept.

The Old Testament reading for Sunday makes promises and paints an attractive picture of the kingdom of heaven and God's invitation.

The readings for each Sunday are designed to work together, especially the Old Testament and Gospel readings.  For this Sunday, the Old Testament and the Gospel do this in two ways - by sharing a focus and by sharing a trajectory.  The shared focus is on the kingdom of heaven, and who is invited into the kingdom of heaven.

The shared trajectory for this Sunday is one that shows up often in the readings - promises made are promises kept.

While it may not always happen in the way that you might expect, promises made in the Old Testament are promises kept in the Gospel.
