Perspective

Just a bunch of random dots.

Step back.  Now there are some shapes.

Step back again.  We’ve seen this before.

Now all the way back.

It’s Seurat’s famous painting.  It got it’s own scene in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.  It’s been parodied by everybody from Family Guy to the Office.  But up close, it’s just a bunch of random dots.

Perspective changes everything.

Sunday’s Gospel (Luke) starts out with mass murder.  Then goes to natural disaster.  And then a parable about a fig tree.  A bunch of random stuff.

Step back.

All the way back.

There’s a bigger picture here.  Something even more important than murder and disaster.  Something with eternal consequences.

More on this tomorrow.  Readings for Sunday
