Red carpet

When something big happens, it happens somewhere important.  Breaking news always has a major city in the background.  The same with planned events (press conferences, awards shows), they always happen somewhere important.

Nobody rolls out the red carpet in fly-over country.

Which is the opposite of Sunday’s first reading (Micah).  Not only is there a quiet, almost hidden forerunner of the Messiah.  There’s the location.

Bethlehem-Ephrathah.  A town with more letters in its name than people.

It’s definitely fly-over country.  But that’s exactly we find the other (indispensable) forerunner.  And the Messiah, the Christ.

More on this tomorrow.  Readings for Sunday
