When something big happens, it happens somewhere important. Breaking news always has a major city in the background. The same with planned events (press conferences, awards shows), they always happen somewhere important.
Nobody rolls out the red carpet in fly-over country.
Which is the opposite of Sunday’s first reading (Micah). Not only is there a quiet, almost hidden forerunner of the Messiah. There’s the location.
Bethlehem-Ephrathah. A town with more letters in its name than people.
It’s definitely fly-over country. But that’s exactly we find the other (indispensable) forerunner. And the Messiah, the Christ.
