Something big

Lent starts next week.  It feels like we just finished Christmas.  But a week from tomorrow?  It’s Ash Wednesday.

So what are you giving up for Lent?  There’s a lot of ways to answer that one.

One friend of mine gives up meat.  Same thing, every time.  Meat.  Another one picks whatever her favorite candy/snack of the moment happens to be.

Mostly, I forget about it.  And then pick something in a burst of guilt during Mass on Ash Wednesday.  Usually chocolate.  Which I will regret.

This time, I’m doing it differently.  And not just because I’m thinking about it before the homily on Ash Wednesday.

This time, I’m giving up something big.  Something that matters.

More on this tomorrow.
