Not that kind of different.

When Jesus calls the first Apostles, there’s something different about Jesus that makes them (literally) drop what they’re doing to follow him.  The people in the synagogue also see something different in Jesus.  Sunday’s Gospel (Mark) is the “what-happens-next” after those moments of recognition.

There’s a commercial with a group of guys who let others make choices for them.  After a downward spiral of indecision, they end up with something different.  The kind of something different that nobody really wants.

This isn’t that kind of something different.

Sunday’s Gospel gives us a glimpse of what people are seeing in Jesus.  It shows us what that something different looks like in action.  And it draws all kinds of people to Jesus.

More on this tomorrow.
