There’s something different about Peter

In the verses leading up to the first reading for last Sunday, Peter and John go to the Temple to pray.  When they heal a man who was lame, the miracle draws a crowd.  Peter tells them about Jesus’ resurrection, and calls them to repent for their role in Jesus’ death.

The first reading for this Sunday (Acts) is what happens next, when the crowd gets the attention of the Temple authorities.

Peter is the Prince of the Apostles.  He’s also the King of Blurting Things Out.  If anyone is going to miss the point, take the wrong thing seriously, and over-react in a not-at-all private way, it’s Peter.

But not this time.  This time, he’s speaking with power, with authority.  There’s something different about Peter.

More on this tomorrow.
