“Lord it over them.” It shows up Sunday’s Gospel (Mark). It’s not something we hear every day. But we know what it means the moment Jesus says it.
And we all have the same reaction to it. Go away. Someone who’s doing it is someone we don’t want to be around. Why?
Because we know it’s a warning. Like a road flare. It tells us that there’s something we need to avoid.
That this is someone who loves things and uses people.
And the point of Jesus warning? That if I’m really His, that someone can’t be me.
