Back in the day, prophets were basically fortune tellers, paid to tell people what they wanted to hear. Not the Old Testament prophets.
Nowadays, people often think of prophets as grim preachers and humorless moralists. That's not really the Old Testament prophets either.
So who are they really? People with a relationship with God, who responded to God's call to do more. People who trusted God, who were willing to go where God sent them.
Even though going would interfere with their lives, with their work - with everything that each of us likes to say "mine" about. They put God first, they went. And we're still reading it.
