It doesn’t matter what kind of relationship it is. It could be a job, a friendship, or even a marriage. Without shared expectations, it’s doomed.
The first reading for Sunday (Deuteronomy) can seem like what people who never read the Bible think the Old Testament sounds like.
But there’s something more going on here.
This is part of a larger passage, where the most famous relationship in the Bible – God and His people – is being sorted out. What does it mean for them to be God’s people? What does it mean for Him to be their God?
You wouldn’t get married without a lot of deep conversations with your intended. You’re not stupid. Neither is God. And this is going to be a relationship for the ages.
