Bad things happen. They're bad not just for the harm they do, but also because they conflict with our very nature. And on a gut level we know that the first reading (Wisdom) is right, that life wasn't supposed to be this way.
Which is why they hit us so hard. We react to that disconnect between the bad things that happen and how we know things are supposed to be. In a lot of unhealthy and unhelpful ways.
We like to distance ourselves from it. If it's not happening to us, then maybe it won't happen to us and we can ignore it.
Which works great. Until it doesn't.
But that's not the way it's supposed to be either. So how are we supposed to react?
More on this tomorrow.
