Preparation takes many forms. Sometimes it's something we're already doing, sometimes it's something new. And sometimes it's something we never wanted.
An older friend of mine knew she needed to lose weight. She told me all the reasons why she needed to exercise and change her diet. She just never got around to it. Because she wasn't prepared.
Then it happened, the health crisis/wake-up call. That's what prepared her to act. And I have never seen her more motivated.
Sunday's Gospel (Luke) is the Prodigal Son, the ultimate do-over story. We all know what happens when the son comes home. But before you get to the father's love, don't overlook what prepared the son to come home.
