So we’re two weeks into Advent, and then – random feast. And not just the usual nifty day of saintly spiffiness, but a Holy Day of Obligation. One of the Church’s biggest deals. Second only to stuff like Christmas and Easter.
Tomorrow is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. And it’s not random at all, it’s absolutely central to Christmas. It tells us why the Holy Family are who they are.
We already know the “why” of Joseph. It’s all about who Joseph is. His willingness to listen to God. And his ancestry. Laid out in a string of “begats” in both Matthew and Luke.
And the Immaculate Conception? It’s the answer to the other question. Why Mary?
