You're doing it wrong

The first reading for Sunday (Amos) starts with Amos getting yelled at by one of the local prophets.  Amos isn't doing what prophets usually do, telling fortunes and telling people what they want to hear.  Amos has been telling people what God told him to say.

And the other prophets are upset.  Amos is bad for business, and the message to Amos is clear.  Leave.  You're doing it wrong.

But Amos isn't in the business.  He didn't need to tell them he wasn't a professional, that he's not trying to make a living doing this.  They could tell.

Amos is there for a different reason.  And he isn't leaving.

More on this tomorrow.
